Your Friendly Neighborhood Italian Restaurant - Cacio e Pepe

Hidden away in a quiet area away from the city, surrounded by private estates and industrial buildings, one never imagined that there would be any eateries here, let alone a quality restaurant.

Located along Chu Lin Road with a small row of shop houses, Cacio e Pepe serves its diners with authentic Italian cuisine, using the finest ingredients.

I have been to this restaurant on several occasions, with different company, but there is one thing that remains constant: To be served with a hearty and sumptuous meal.

Cacio e Pepe

With a sign that is barely visible, it might be difficult for one to spot the restaurant from far. The interior of the restaurant is small, with about eight tables, and its design are simple and modest. There are outside seating as well.

Here are some of the dishes that I have tried:

Appetizers

Prosciutto & Melone

Price: $18

A simple dish which contains following: Parma ham, rock melon, rocket and cherry tomatoes. As you take the first bite, the sweetness of the rock melon merges very well with the saltiness of the Parma ham, and then finishes with the slight bitterness of the rocket leaves. This dish has just the right amount of the three flavors – sweet, salty and bitter – making it a savory and well-balanced appetizer.

Portobello

Fresh Portobello mushroom baked with crab meat and prawn, finished with rich gorgonzola sauce. As per its description, a huge soft Portobello mushroom paired with yummy sauce gets more delicious with every bite. A very addictive dish which I wished I could have everything to myself.

Calamari Fritti

A dish with deep fried squid rings and special sauce. Even though I don't like squid very much, this dish was done pretty well with its fresh ingredients.

Primi Piatti (First Course or ‘Pasta’)

Tagliatelle al Tartufo (Truffle Pasta)

Price: $24

Who doesn't like truffle? Pasta with scallops and prawns, served with thick and creamy truffle sauce. Needless to say, this dish is one of my favorite in this restaurant. A fair warning that one plate could be too heavy for a single person. Best is to share among few people.

Spaghetti al Nero di Seppia (Squid Ink Pasta)

Price: $20

Spaghetti with seafood cooked in squid ink sauce. Another delicious pasta from the restaurant. However, this makes your teeth black afterwards.

Secondi Piatti Carne (Meat)

Chicken Pollo

Grilled boneless chicken thigh served with mashed potatoes and peas. A very well cooked chicken with a soft texture that can certainly satisfy your meat cravings!

Home Made Desserts

Tiramisu

White Chocolate Panna Cotta

Price: $10 (Panna Cotta)

The desserts were pretty standard which you can find in most Italian restaurants. They are decent and worth a try.

Conclusion

Whether you plan to have lunch with your friends to catch-up, or nice family dinner on an evening, Cacio e Pepe is definitely a good choice for a homely Italian meal. Away from the busy town areas, the cozy and serene ambiance at Cacio e Pepe makes you forget all your troubles with its delicious and mouthwatering food.
